Orwellian -- the term is often used these days to reflect on current events. What does it refer to? Of course its George Orwell's dystopian novel '1984' ... to which this song is both a tribute and a modern socio-political commentary about life in the 'national security state'. The song is written by the singer, Anais Mitchell, a young Quaker singer-songwriter-guitarist who is rapidly gaining fame internationally.
