Restorative Justice Taxonomy Project

I'd love to hear from anyone about what came of the Restorative Justice Taxonomy Project, that was outlined with such vision in 2003. See More

"Hello, I am very interested in the Restorative Justice Taxonomy Project, that was proposed a few years back, and wonder what came of it?"

The John Woolman College consists of practitioners and scholars of peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding -- the Triad of Active Peace. Our shared commitments can be reduced to five precepts or ideas:

1. Active Peace, usually called 'Peacemaking', is a discrete discipline, in and of itself;

2. Peacemaking / Active Peace can be taught;

3. We are called -- it is our vocation -- to teach peacemaking / Active Peace;

4. We will do so at every possible opportunity in our lives;

5. We will do what we can to forward the John Woolman College mission (money donations not required).

For the College's purposes, the 'Triad of Active Peace' is defined as:

A. Peacemaking (conflict transformation);

B. Peacekeeping (nonviolent accompaniment of the vulnerable and oppressed); and

C: Peacebuilding (sustainable development and providing for human needs).

We consider anyone committed to such activities qualified to be part of our institution, without any other obligation. No degrees, diplomas, or certifications are required.

The Rise of the Global Civil Society

Rene Wadlow*

            There is currently a great expansion of what can be called “The Global Civil Society”— a host of commercial companies, media outlets, and non-governmental organizations ((NGOs) whose activities cross State frontiers.  Often the staff members of these organizations come from a variety of countries and backgrounds. This global civil society is increasingly powerful…

Solving Climate Change

I start with certain premises:

The world can invent and develop 1000 small ways out of climate change.

God’s work must truly be our own.  I don’t assume that “the system” is out to solve anything for us.  So, the system is us.  We are responsible stewards for the earth.  Either we’re in charge of planning things out, or else nobody is.

The American approach to problems is quite tied up with inventiveness.  For example, inventors have designed easily fixable water pumps…

The mathematics of forgiveness and honesty

This is my first connection with this website, so I hope I’m doing things right.

In a linear prisoner’s dilemma game, one automaton or person can choose to reward itself a little, or to reward a second automaton a bit more.  For example, one automaton might

be given a choice to give itself one point, or to give the other automaton two

points.  Then the second…

Listen for whispers from the woods, and wisdom will come.

The United Nations General Assembly, in Resolution 61/203; has proclaimed 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity. The resolution, marking the UN Convention on Biodiversity was passed prior to the holding of the December 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference which highlighted the interactions between… Continue

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.

The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.
